While you are still researching for a service provider that will give you great wireless internet, there are some extra things and terminology that you need to know. This post will help you with that and you will be better able to understand the jargon that tech support or sales people may throw upon you.

We will first start with these two:

LISP

WISP

LISP -in the context of this article and the topic we are talking about, this stands for Local Internet Service Provider. This means that you are getting your internet from a company that is specifically servicing your area. It could also mean that the infrastructure itself is local. This means that you have a wired connection and the infrastructure is physically to your door and therefore local.

WISP - this acronym on the other hand stands for Wireless Internet Service Providers. It is not the same as wifi service providers. The W does not stand for Wide like in LAN and WAN. A wireless internet provider does not need to be local. They can just be using some satellites as part of their operations and outsourcing local technical support when the need arises.

When it comes to WISPs, people are always wanting to know the best internet provider and the one with the highest high speed wireless internet. There is more to choosing an ISP than just that. I have written many other posts that inform you on the things to look out for so that you can get the best wireless internet provider for you. The best may be different for you and some one else with different needs so you need to be careful of this.

I have thrown in some other acronyms above which are not explained. Let me do so now:

LAN - Local Area Network. This definition almost speaks for itself. It refers to a network that is within the same local area. By local we mean the same house or floor or building, not suburb or city.

WAN - Wide Area Network. This also speaks for itself but can have different applications. One company can have a WAN where they have many offices but it can also refer to the world network or internet.

ISP - Internet Service Provider. These are the people that provide you with your internet service. When we talk about wireless internet providers, we are talking about getting you a great ISP.

Hopefully this post has cleared up some things for you and made acronyms and jargon a little bit clearer than before.

You are probably thinking that it is time to change service providers so that you can get more out of your internet connection. Or maybe your contract is ending soon and you want to know what else is out there. Maybe you are just plain unhappy with who you have and want out! Whatever your reasons for looking for something else, I am here to tell you that there is something better.

That something better and something else is to have yourself your very own wireless internet provider. Here are four reasons why you should seriously consider getting one:

Speed

Technology

Support

Cool

Speed -There is no doubt that the wireless infrastructure is a hell of a lot faster than the wired infrastructure. Only so much improvement can be done on existing cables that have already been laid and only so much can be done with the network cards that are plugged in to either end of these cables. I am talking about the infrastructure of telecommunications companies here and not your home network. But even that is limiting. Go wireless.

Technology -Whenever new technology is made available it is so much easier to deploy when all you have to replace is some hardware on each end rather than everything in between. Also, wireless seems to be the way everyone is going and everyone is spending all of their research dollars on so technology will improve much faster in this area than any other. Using a wireless internet provider means that you can take advantage of these advances. They pack so much technology into such small packages these days, like the USB wireless card that you see everywhere now.

Support - Mostly, those people that have a wireless connection for their internet have a bit of technical knowledge already. Internet providers know this and this means that they will put knowledgeable support staff on for those that use their wireless products. This will save you a lot of time and frustration. You will have less than you have now.

Cool -Well, you can not go past the coolness factor. It is just so cool to have everything wireless and be wire free and have cutting edge technology at your fingertips and awesome data speeds. What more could you ask for?

So there are your reasons for changing provider and not just your provider but your technology as well. If you are still not convinced, why not carry on and do some more research and do something that is good for you for once.
